Integrated writing and its correlates: A meta-analysis

Integrated tasks are increasing in popularity, either replacing or complementing writing-only independent writing assessments. This shift has generated many research interests to investigate the underlying construct and features of integrated (IW) performances. However, due complexity IW construct, there conflicting findings about whether extent which various language skills text correlate scores. To understand IW, we conducted a meta-analysis synthesize correlation coefficients between scores performances (1) other (2) quality IW. We also examined factors that may moderate with these two groups correlates. Consequently, reading showed stronger correlations than listening scores; length had strongest correlation, followed by source integration, organization syntactic complexity, smallest lexical complexity.
